The WV Thunder 16u closed out their seven years in the Thunder Program by capturing first place in the Michael T. White Summer Derby in the 17u Signature Division at Louisville this week. Nine girls made the trip and the team went 5-0 in capturing the title.  In the semi finals the Thunder defeated the Indiana Explosion 54-52 to advance to the championship game.  LeAnne Ross,  Marietta High School led the team in scoring with 16 points. Chelsea Caldwell , Lincoln County High School had a double-double with 10 pts. and 12 boards. In the championship game Ross scored 19 pts in the win and Karissa Adkins, Oak Hill OH High School added 11 pts..  Other girls who made the trip to Louisville included  Kelsey Plybon, Spring Valley High School, Erin Bailes, Huntington High School, Kayla Cook, South Webster High School. Kara Pollinger, Tolsia High School. Rebecca Puckett, Oak Hill OH High School & Brooke Keeton, Huntington St. Joe High School.  Team members unable to make the trip included Whitney Bays, Huntington High School: Injured, Dusti Chapman, Huntington St. Joe, Church Camp & Tori Dixon, Vinton County, out of town

Butler County Super Regionals
16u Age Division
Mason OH
May 8, 9, 10, 2009

The WV Thunder captured the Silver medal in the super regional held in Mason, Oh this past weekend.    The team went 3-0 in pool play to advance into the championship round. In the semi finals they defeated the Ohio Lady Diamonds 75-60 as Kayla Cook and Whitney Bays each put up 18 points. Erin Bailes added 11. In the championship game they lost to the Indiana Legends 82-70.  Karissa Adkins and Kara Pollinger each put up 16 points. Kayla Cook added 12 and LeAnne Ross finished with 10.

Deep South Classic
Raleigh-Chapel Hill NC
April 17, 28, 19, 2009


The WV Thunder went 3-2 in the Deep South Classic in the 17u Signature Division.  They lost one game in sudden death Vs City Rock a New York team. They also played teams from California, Illinois, Colorado, & Ohio.  This is the only weekend the college scouts can view the girls and they were out in droves to watch the Thunder 16’s as several of the players are getting looks from a ton of schools. Yes WV’s two major universities were there the entire time. Coach Carey and Coach Chadwick rotated between the Deep South, Boo Williams and Atlanta as each school had someone at each event.

The WV Thunder 16u played in a tune up event prior to competing in the Deep South Classic on April 17-19. The Thunder defeated Kentucky Gold 63-42 in game one and the D-1 Greyhounds in game two 49-48 and in game three 55-49  As high school teammates Erin Bailes and Whitney Bays combined for 39 points.
